Rosa of the Wild Grass

'My home is your home, mi casa es su casa' exhibition with work from Project Ability Artists

WASPS Studios - The Briggait Glasgow - Nov 2017/Jan 2018

Images from Fiona Macintosh's exhibition of prints and wall-hangings based on the book 'Rosa of the Wild Grass'. The exhibition portrays survival through conflict, trauma and recovery through community spirit. Artists from Project ability have explored their feelings about their own communities in artworks that are on display in gallery one of the Briggait.

Project Ability Reconnect group

Sian Mather - [top row, 1st image]
I wanted to show our working studio and some of the many friends we all have and share. I also wanted to show the life and soul of the studio. I love working in oils.

Sarah Jane McColl - [top row, 2nd image}
My name is Sarah Jane McColl. I am 28 years young from Cambusland, Glasgow. I suffered from alcoholism for 6 years of my life but now I'm completely abstinent. In my work, the bright blue circle symbolises the blue planet and the community within because it was normal to drink every day in my community. I'm stood in front of the bottles to portray that this is all behind me now, in the past, and I'm standing strong as I am in control now. The stripes of silver and light blue represent the future and how there is no looking back now.

Peter Stewart - [2nd row, 1st image]
Here at Project Ability is where I do my painting and meet friends. This is some of the painting I have done, it is important to me to have a chance to come here.

Anji Goddard - [2nd row, 2nd image]
This piece is based on the idea that 'community' exists within ourselves. In our hearts. There was a time when I was isolated from society but my community consisted of nature, my dog and my Buddhist practice that all fed my soul and grounded me.

Ruth Mutch - [2nd row, last image]
These are all the people that are important to me. They include family, people at Project Ability, friends and professionals.

Morag Macgilchrist - [3rd row, last image]
WE WILL NOT BE DISCONNECTED
Our group was called Connect. We had to close when our funding was lost. The participants were all upset as we loved coming to Connect. Many of us came together and fought to keep the project going. We succeeded and now we are re-connected under the name ReConnect.

The exhibition is open until 26th January 2018 at WASPS Briggait Glasgow
